Flights
In order to visit Zakopane and the region of Podhale, you should choose Krakow (Balice) Airport as your destination airport.
Other airport that offers a relatively easy access to this part of Poland is Katowice (Pyrzowice) Airport.
The easiest way to get to these airports from Malta is to book your flight with Ryanair or WizzAir (both are considered as cheap airlines and neither offers business class tickets).
Flight Prices
When booking the tickets on your own, please make sure you book them well ahead. This will definitely keep the price of the tickets at a reasonable level. Last minute bookings do not guarantee a low price.
Luggage
While booking the flight on your own, it is recommended to pay extra for a 10kg or even 20kg luggage. Especially if you decide to travel in winter-time. Winters can be quite cold, so warm clothes and snow/waterproof boots are necessary. Also a swimsuit and pool slippers are necessary at the Termy Szaflary hotel. Towels and bathrobes are provided by the hotel.
Airport transfer
We provide airport transfer from Krakow Balice Airport or Katowice Pyrzowice Airport . The transfer from Krakow is cheaper and usually around 130Euro. The fee stays the same for up to 4 persons.
Transfers from Katowice are a bit more expensive, usually around 160Euro (total for up to 4 persons ).
If you decide to travel with a bigger party, we will arrange for a minibus to pick you all up at a single go.
Renting a car
While renting a car, please keep in mind that you will have to deal with the right-hand side traffic. Caution is necessary. Driving in winter-time requires experience and constant caution.
If you are renting a car, there are no parking fees at the Termy Szaflary hotel. You should expect to pay for parking in Zakopane (always look for parking meters located near parking spots) and in Krakow.
Hotel
Prices – all prices of your stay package include room rates calculated at the standard regular price per room. The stay includes breakfast, parking fee (if necessary) and the unlimited use of the saunas and pools (open until 10pm).
Building – the three level building features the thermal water park on level 0. Levels 1 and 2 offer fourteen hotel rooms of different sizes. There is no elevator in the building.
Room – all rooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers. In the bathroom you can also find bathrobes, towels, pool towels, and a hair dryer. Each room has a TV, a mini fridge and a mini-bar (charged extra), a set for making tea or coffee. Ironing board and irons are available upon request.
Some rooms have balconies overlooking the outdoor pools. Early booking can definitely get you a big room with a balcony. Rooms are serviced every day. Bathrobes are not exchanged.
Amenities – the hotel offers a big terrace for hotel guests only with tables, sundeck chairs, patio umbrellas, and ashtrays (smoking is allowed on the room balconies or at the main terrace). There is also a kid’s room, a playroom with a billiard table, a table tennis, a foosball table, and an Xbox.
The hotel offers two main restaurants for afternoon meals or drinks. In summer-time you can enjoy other food vending stations at the outside pools area.
Location – the hotel is located 18 minute drive away from Zakopane, and a 5 minute drive from Nowy Targ. Commuting is very easy – the site has its own bus stop and a train stop is being built right now.
There are buses to Zakopane, Nowy Targ, or Krakow leaving nearly every 20 minutes.
Time of visit
There are only two months in a year with fewer visitors – March and November. The school breaks in Poland start in January until the end of February (winter break) and from the 24the of June until the end of August (summer break). University students start their school year on the 1st of October.
It starts snowing at the end of December. There might be occasional snow earlier but usually not too much and it disappears quite quickly. Winters in the region can last up to the end of April. Maybe there isn’t too much snow (if any) at the time but the mornings can still feel chilly.
In winter-time is might get quite cold. The worst is minus 15 during the day. The best is +4 and sunny. Wrap up well for your winter-time visit – that’s why the 20kg luggage space is the best choice when booking flights.
Summers are very warm or hot (from 24 to even 35 degrees). Even a visit in June can surprise you with the heat.
